Nothing ruins a delightful summer day more than buzzing in your ears and then… a “bite” on your arm! Yes, it’s mosquito season!
Besides being a pest, mosquitoes are one of the world’s most dangerous bugs, thanks to fact that they can carry and transmit Malaria. Malaria is said to affect about 10% of the world’s total population. Deaths from Malaria are usually in Sub-Saharan Africa, where mosquitoes are very prominent and critical care for Malaria is hard to find.
In order to keep your home and yard free of these detrimental insects, try the following easy ways…
Drain water from garbage cans, house gutters, pool covers, coolers, toys, flower pots or any other containers where sprinkler or rain water has collected. Standing water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes! By getting rid of standing water, you are getting rid of potential mosquito nurseries!
Discard old tires, drums, bottles, cans, pots and pans, broken appliances and other items that aren’t being used. These, too, are places mosquitoes like to congregate and could end up turning into a mosquito multiplier! And bonus: Your yard will look better!
Empty and Clean
Don’t forget the animals! Empty and clean birdbaths and outside dog or cat water bowls at least once or twice a week. Fresh water is good for your animals anyway!
Protect your boats and any vehicles you keep outside from rain with tarps so they don’t accumulate water either.
