A Warning for Florida's Winter Residents

Do you have "unwelcome" guests in your winter home?[/caption]
Are you a "
snowbird” returning to your winter residence in our beautiful sunny state? If so, who could blame you? Florida is certainly where
we want to be while those in the "great white North" shiver and freeze in the blustery cold!
But be warned: someone—or rather some
thing—may be hiding in your home!
The
first thing you need to know is this:
don't panic! There's no need to call the police! We're talking about those little creepy crawlies like
roaches,
ants, and
termites that
might have found their way into your residence!
Here are few helpful tips for inspecting your home for signs that pests may have been playing "house" while you were away during the summer months!
- Check for signs that bugs may have entered your home and died while you were gone. Carcasses or body parts left lying around are a good clue that they've been around! Check near window sills, in your kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room and garage for this tell-tale sign of a pest infestation.
- Look for droppings. Obviously, this is not the most pleasant way to pass your afternoon, but it's a sure-fire way to know if any unwanted visitors have been hanging around! Check all rooms for droppings that are typically brown or black in color and look similar to coffee grounds.
- Don't forget to look outside! These unwelcome guests have outside living spaces too! Carports, garages and outdoor patio areas are popular places for bugs to hang out. Look for things like remains, droppings, egg casings and wood shavings.
